I don’t know about you, but when I’m exploring a new city on the weekend – or even my own! – I tend to crave super unhealthy snacks. I figure, I’ll treat myself! I’m out on the town, it’s the weekend, and I’m not sitting at home where I can easily make my own healthy(ish) snacks.
Either I’m craving something sweet and sugary or I want something totally indulgent – an entire pizza, for example. Or maybe a tray of tacos, take your pick.
3 Super Easy Travel Snack Tips
Instead of indulging too much on those weekend walks and adventures, here are a few ways I’ll be curbing the cravings during my summer travels:
Spend 10 minutes doing your research. And by research, I simply mean looking up healthier options before you adventure out. Find a few restaurants that serve healthy snacks that’ll fuel you for the day and grab those when you’re feeling hungry.
Bring a few cans of Zevia. I don’t often crave soda at home, but when I’m out, I want ginger ale and root beer with my meals. Maybe it’s some strange association thing from when I was younger and tried to get Shirley Temples EVERYWHERE – tasty meals come with a super bubbly soda. Zevia still satisfies that bubbly craving, but with only natural sweeteners. Score. It’s actually made from Stevia, a plant (aka a natural sweetener) that provides 200x the sweetness of sugar yet has no caloric value, nor does it raise blood sugar levels.
Pack healthy snacks you KNOW you enjoy. My downfall when I’m out exploring on weekends is that I’ll pack a healthy snack, then remember I don’t actually want it at all, and thus I’ll buy something while I’m out which totally defeats the purpose of bringing healthy snacks. So, find a few healthy snack go-tos and pack those! At least then you’ll be sure to eat it, without being totally disappointed.
What are some of your weekend exploring tips? I’m all about staying hydrated and fueled (with food) so that I’m not falling asleep by 8 pm. And if you want to give Zevia a go, here’s where to find it!
