5 moving tips for your next big move.

All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I’ve moved 17 times.
SEVENTEEN!
I think, at this point, I’d nearly call myself a moving pro. Though, like most other people who are in the midst of a move, I procrastinate. However, I’ve learned quite a bit over my past 17 moves.
Like, well, not to procrastinate. And also a whole bunch of other tips and tricks that make moving MUCH more manageable. Like using Glad® Press’n Seal®. Excited to see where I’m going with that? It’s not using it for food…though that works, too!
Sounds simple, right? Well, it’s much easier said than done. Make a list of EVERYTHING you need to pack, and organize that list by what can be packed a few weeks in advance all the way through your daily essentials. The first things up on my list for packing are usually photographs and other mementos, books, and out of season clothing.
Organize and separately pack all of those little doodads and loose pieces you’ve got on hand. I’m talking about all of the screws and little tools for your bed, dresser, bookshelves, etc. I like to pick up a few roles of Glad Press’n Seal at Target to use for all of these funky little items. It’s got an airtight seal, which makes me feel better for packing up those less glamorous items—like nails and screws. Plus, it means you don’t need to pick up a ton of different plastic bags to use. Instead, you can rip the Glad Press’n Seal to any size you need. It seals to almost any surface, too, which means the nails all stuck to the little bags I made and not a single one was lost! #win.
I have to thank my husband for this one. You can, too! He creates a spreadsheet for moving that includes all the pertinent information about our items…and I created one just for you featuring a new sheet where you can organize every little detail about your next move. He likes to list out each box by the number he writes on it, then notes down what important items are in that box, which room it should go to, if we need to unpack it immediately, etc. It helped us stay SO organized and prevented us from rummaging through boxes as soon as we were in our new home because we knew exactly what was in each box.

I have SO many things to say about this one. During our last move, we left packing the kitchen for the morning of and it was a TOTAL nightmare. So, here’s what I learned:
Go green and rent plastic moving containers. You’ll save SO much time because you won’t be needing to assemble and tape up all the boxes. Instead, you can snap them shut and you’re ready to go. Just remember to grab all of your packing materials in advance so you’re not constantly running out to buy more—that’s the worst! Target is my go-to for nearly everything (including markers and labels!), as if that comes a surprise.
