Notes and photographs from a weekend away in the Berkshires
Most of my travel lately has been solo ⎯ I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy a peaceful few nights back at Scribner’s (a favorite!), a week in Copenhagen, nearly monthly trips to New York City, and more. Truly, so so fortunate!
And, while I was back up north, my mom and I decided to finally book a trip we’ve been talking about for what feels like years. I think it has, indeed, been years. And, it happened!
We packed up bags full of books and drove about an hour northwest from where my family lives to Lenox, Massachusetts. I’d been before, for a short day trip and also for one of my best friend’s weddings, though I haven’t had much downtime in town.
A while back, when Life House announced the opening of its Berkshires property which billed itself as “a writer’s mountain retreat with a cocktail bar & library lounge” I was pretty much set on staying there. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the library lounge is absolutely delicious. The early afternoon sun shining in was such a treat.
We spent two nights, and three days in the Berkshires property and left only a couple of times. I rooted myself in my favorite chair (I am, without a double, a creature of habit) and tucked myself in with the many books I brought with me. I had a view of the fireplace and sipped on coffee and spritzes. It’s essentially living like royalty.
I read through Almond by Sohn Won-Pyung and made some decent progress with Cult Classic by Sloane Crosley. It was so calm, all I had to do was get myself dressed and head downstairs. It was simple and slow and soft.
While we’re chatting books, here are a few hopeful stories I loved!
If you’re looking for a quiet, calm getaway ⎯ Life House Berkshires was lovely.
It’s on a busier road than I thought and less tucked away than I imagined, yet it felt like we were worlds away while lounging in the library.
If you go, I’m so curious to hear what you think of it!
Do you have any trips coming up that you’re looking forward to? I want to hear all about them!
Next up for me is: New York (again); Belgium, the Netherlands, and France; and a jaunt to Florida for a friend’s bachelorette!
