My go to evening is full of red wine, bread, and cheese. Oh, and great company, too! However, it took me the longest time to nail down my cheese board style.
That sounds ridiculous, I know.
But styling a cheese board can be hard! That’s why I’m sharing my foolproof technique for the easiest cheese board, yet.
First, make sure you have a board that will fit everything you want to serve. I looked for months for the perfect marble board to use for serving my cheese boards on. Then, it hit me. Why pay extra for a slab of marble just because it’s named a marble serving board?
Well, I suppose for convenience. But, I decided against spending more on it for that reason. Instead, we stopped by Home Depot and grabbed a marble tile. It’s the perfect size and a quarter of the price. It’s about 1/2″ thick and 12″ x 24″ – the perfect size for serving my favorite cheeses. Did I mention it was $12? $12!
But, if it’s convenience you want, you can grab a beautiful marble board from Food52. Strangely, I still want one of their boards. One can never have too much marble, am I right?
Second, pick out your cheeses. I typically go with three. I know, I know, there are so many cheeses to pick from! You can do it, I believe in you.
I usually go with the basics – brie, goat, and blue.
But, some of my other favorites are manchego, camembert, and gouda. Give your guests a variety, I prefer soft cheeses, so I usually have two soft and one blue. But, it’s up to you!
Third, pick out your jams/honey. I like to have at least two on hand at all times, but three to four works well, too. For this board, I had peach pepper jelly, blackberry & brandy jelly, and honey. We’re all about the peach pepper jelly right now, but definitely use whichever jams you prefer.
I always have a little dish of honey, too. Just in case one of your guests doesn’t like jam (but let’s ask ourselves, who doesn’t like jam?).
Fourth, grab some garnishes. For this board, I used nuts and grapes. Super easy. For the cheese board I made last night while two of our friends were visiting, I used grapes and sprigs of fresh rosemary. I’m totally into rosemary. Plus, I love greens on cheese boards – now I’m kicking myself for not using it this time!
In any case, this cheese board was still delicious.
And now you’re completely equipped to build your very own easy cheese board! What shindigs do you have coming up? We’re already planning a housewarming brunch, southern style. And yes, my brunch will obviously have a cheese board.

Cheeseboards are my favorite for when friends are coming over! So delicious and so pretty!
Aren’t they the best? You simply can’t beat an evening with cheese, bread, and wine!

This looks really really good!! I’m more and more into wine lately so will be trying out your cheese board soon!
Yay! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I used to despise red wine, but I’m really diggin’ it now – it pairs so well with cheese.

This cheese board is beautiful! I’ve been really wanting to make cheese platters basically every night for my two little ones to munch on and start becoming familiar with different types of cheese, etc. This is a perfect place for me to start. I just need to find a nice board… I’d love a white granite one! Going to start hunting…!
Great post, and photos!
You definitely should! I’m not as well-versed in types of cheeses out there as I’d like to be, but I’m learning! (Sounds kind of silly, but I’m okay with it). It’s great for snacking on or for entertaining – you’ll have to let me know if you find a white granite board!

You look like the perfect host. I’m into cheese but not the smelly stuff, which seems really popular in the UK.
Buckets & Spades
I’m with you there, the smelly stuff is not my favorite. Give me a good brie and I’m set!

I am so loving this. But my biggest problem would be not eating all of the cheese before displaying this to friends lol. This is simply beautiful and I’m so loving the photos as well.
It’s so difficult to not eat all of it! So, I always allow myself to try a tiny piece of each cheese I’m putting out before everyone comes over 😉
