Up until this summer, I despised cantaloupe. Like, actually hated it. I’m not sure if it was the taste, the color, or something else completely. It didn’t matter, I wouldn’t ever eat it. I was a honeydew loyalist through and through. Then something happened this summer. I discovered the cantaloupe, mozzarella, and prosciutto salad and my hatred flew out the door faster than my ears perk up when I hear ‘tacos’. So naturally, when I realized I now love cantaloupe, I decided to make myself (and you!) a little cantaloupe cooler.
I’m not really sure what changed or what inspired me to stop by the farmer’s market on my way home and pick up a cantaloupe, then also walk my butt all the way up to Whole Foods after realizing the grocery store near me had literally zero of the ingredients on hand (that place is the worst). I guess I just knew I was going to love it and so I forced myself to get to Whole Foods on one of the hottest days to pick up the fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, basil, mint, and more.
Whatever made me do it, I’m glad it did! I’m now a cantaloupe lover and this cantaloupe cooler is no exception. It’s refreshing, sweet but not too sweet, and only takes a few minutes to make – aka my idea kind of summer cocktail. Even if you don’t like cantaloupe, perhaps you’ll be a convert like me! Who knows…right?
ps. If you’re looking for a fruit salad with a little kick, try Waiting on Martha’s melon salad recipe – it’s got serrano peppers! YUM!
