Black Beauty Spritz: A Warm-Weather Coffee Cocktail
This is a husband specialty. For real.
He didn’t make up the cocktail recipe, though he did find it. When he first brought it out to me on the patio without telling me what was in it, I was entirely skeptical. It wasn’t like any other drink I’d had before. Then he told me it was made with Patrón XO Cafe, St-Germain, and ginger beer. The ingredients seemed….random.
Though, when I thought about it, I had enjoyed a few lattes with ginger syrup. Naturally, that’s different than this by about a mile, but the idea and flavor profile is similar.
The Black Beauty Spritz is a recipe by Patrón, which is where the main ingredient is also from – Patrón XO Cafe. If you haven’t had it, it’s a delightful coffee liqueur. It’s dark in color and bold in flavor. It’s most certainly a dessert liqueur which makes this coffee cocktail seem all the more decadent.
We’d had our bottle of Patrón XO on hand for quite some time, yet I hadn’t really played around with it all that much. It seemed a little heavy, and perhaps a bit too sweet for me. Which, I think is why I love this recipe so darn much – it’s not too sweet because the tang of the ginger gives it something really special to even it out.
So, if you like to play host/hostess and/or enjoy getting a little adventurous with your bevy recipes, try this one out. The ginger paired with the coffee flavor of the liqueur is a real treat.
1.5 oz Patrón XO Cafe
.75 oz St-Germain
3 oz Ginger beer
Lemon zest for garnish
1. Combine ingredients in a highball glass, fill with ice, and stir gently to combine.
2. Garnish with lemon zest.
Despite how special this coffee cocktail sounds, it’s an easy 2-step recipe. Anyone could make it. You don’t even need a tumbler! While I love a good shaken drink, I do enjoy that this one is an easy stirred one, which is perfect if you’re hosting. Less time + fewer steps = happy guests.
What other dessert cocktails do you enjoy at home or when you’re out? I feel like I need to start adding to my repository.
