It’s Daylight Saving Time which means it’s almost spring! While I love the cold and snow and wearing tons of layers, I’ve been more excited than ever for spring. Perhaps it’s all the perfect dresses I’ve been seeing or the sun that’s been teasing us lately with bright days and 30 degree temps.
Before I dive in, is it just me or does the name “daylight saving time” drive everybody crazy? It sounds wrong. Like it should be “daylight savings time” right? But also that doesn’t really make sense. Who knows. Let’s not get too technical.
Regardless, it’s almost spring and I’m celebrating! Now, I know we don’t actually get an extra hour of sun. BUT, it feels like we do, especially when I’m heading home around 6 pm and it’s still bright out!
It’s a miracle. The whole getting-dark-at-4:30pm-thing is so taxing. It’s dark before I’m even thinking about heading home for the day! I think the first day after “falling back” in autumn is the toughest. It’s such a sad surprise each year remembering how unbelievably unproductive I can be when it’s dark so early.
I digress. To celebrate daylight saving time and the ‘extra’ hour of sun, T. and I decided to go on a little picnic at a quaint park near our home. Sure, I had to wear a warm vest and he wore a jacket, but it was sunny and we ate outside and it was magical.
We each brought along a sandwich with honey ham, brie, sliced green apples, and fig jam (SO good!). I also whipped up a non-alcholic grapefruit fizz made of 3 freshly-squeezed grapefruits (for 2 drinks), club soda, fresh basil syrup, and sprigs of rosemary. It was a refreshing, delicious – and easy! – meal.
How are you planning to celebrate the ‘extra’ sunlight now that it stays bright out later? Perhaps a little weekend trip? My friends over at Lark Hotels are offering some nifty early spring deals!
