When we moved into our new home, I had a long list of to-dos, DIY projects, and furniture to buy. We grabbed a few new pieces and spruced them up – like our IKEA Tarva hack. However, my favorite project thus far has been making our own copper curtain rods. Don’t worry, it’s even easier than it sounds!
Initially, we were going to purchase a ten foot copper pipe and cut it using a copper pipe cutter (finally picked one up! Yay!). But, T. brought up our potential move next year and realized that more than likely, we’ll have different sized windows.
That’s when we had a brilliant idea. Instead of getting one copper pipe and cutting it down to size, we could buy two copper pipes (in 1/2″ and 3/4″) and create a traditional sliding rod.
We grabbed everything to make our copper curtain rods at Home Depot in one trip…and for under $30!
These are fairly easy to hang, but you might want some help! Having four hands is going to be a lot easier than two.
Not so bad, right?
Are you loving copper as much as I am? What copper pieces are you coveting lately? To see some of my favorites, check out the copper Pinterest board I just started!

SO GOOD! I’m switching bedrooms and need to hang new curtains.. May need to steal this idea!

AH I LOVE THIS IDEA. It sound so silly but we have been struggling with curtain rods…. we jumped on some just because they were on sale and a necessity right when we moved in (a year and a half ago…oops…), one has already broken, and we are just being bums about replacing them because attractive ones seem like way more $$ than they’re worth. But THIS I am pinning. Thanks for sharing lady!
Yay! You’ll have to let me know if you try it out 🙂

I’m curious, how long before the copper pipe begins to oxidize? Also, do the curtains slide really easily on it?
what is the point of putting the 1/2″ pipe inside a 3/4″ pipe?? Why two pipes??
Hi, Amanda – We used two pipes so that we could extend the curtain rod and move them as we see fit! 😉

Are you selling these? If not, would you be interested?!
Hi, Linnea – I’m so flattered you asked! We haven’t sold these, but would be open to selling the assembled curtain rods. Feel free to shoot me an email at hello@bygabriella.co if you’re interested!

Hi! would you be able to advise on how to do this but for a double curtain rod?
Hi, Kelly! I think you’d follow the project fairly similarly, but you may want to use hooks instead that have spots to hold two rods vs. the van hangers, which only hold one at a time.
