An effortless savory holiday appetizer with just 5 ingredients.

I could munch on appetizers all day.
In fact, I’d 100% choose appetizers and small plates over eating 3 balanced meals per day.
Okay, okay, I know you’re technically supposed to eat smaller meals throughout the day, but that’s different.
Case in point: If it was good for my health, well-being, and wallet – I would snack all day, each and every day. Even at dinner out on the town, tapas and small plates all the way.
So, it only makes sense that when I’m hosting friends and family for the holidays that I focus on the appetizers. That’s where all my energy goes, and rightfully so! Don’t you love apps at a party or holiday get-together? It’s part of the holiday fun, if you ask me.
Now, the challenge around the holiday season is serving healthy or at the very least, semi-healthy holiday party small plates.
It seems that the holidays have become a month (or…two months) of indulgence. And, while I’m not saying that I don’t indulge – because I definitely do – I try to incorporate some healthier options in my holiday entertaining menus. And, today it’s all about this easy savory holiday appetizer with a spicy kick and A+ crispy texture.
Now, if you’re hosting a holiday get-together, chances are that you don’t have a ton of free time on your hand to make everything from scratch. Life simply isn’t always that easy. So, I like to take advantage of using some pre-made ingredients (like the hummus!) and others that can be prepped days in advance (easy pickled red onions!). If you’re working on your holiday menu – here’s an easy one to add.
1 pack of 34 Degrees Cracked Pepper Crackers
1 container hummus
1 tablespoon adobo sauce
1/2 cup pickled red onions
4 Habanero peppers
1 large jalapeño pepper
1. Mix hummus and adobo sauce until combined.
2. Top cracker with a teaspoon of hummus mixture.
3. Add 2-3 pickled red onions on each cracker.
4. Top with sliced habanero peppers or diced jalapeño pepper (seeded).
5. Enjoy with good company and a great glass of wine!
What I particularly love about these is that the crackers are SO thin, but flavorful, that you don’t fill up on just a few – which means more snacks for everyone! That sounds like my kind of holiday party.
What appetizers will you be serving this holiday season? Do you usually prefer sweet or savory?
