European flower markets now have my heart. Pretty soon, they’ll have yours too!
It’s the start of summer and that means flower market season is upon us.
There’s no better season, if you ask me. We spent the past month exploring Europe and just arrived back in the States this week. But don’t you worry, the Europe content will continue for quite some time. Hope you’re all okay with that! I’ve got some fun city guides in the works and well, lots of other fun posts, too. If you have something you’d like to see or hear about from our trip, let me know!
Okay okay, back to the blooms! Instead of staying in Amsterdam for our month in Europe, we opted for a nearby smaller city. One where we would fully be immersed in dutch culture, where tourists (like us!) were harder to come by, and where we could live like locals – at least for a few weeks.
Utrecht was as lovely as can be. It was filled with cyclists who had priority on the street (sorry, drivers!), alfresco dining, and most importantly – lots of flowers! On our first weekend in Utrecht, we discovered that the city had a local flower market on weekends. Naturally, we visited right away.
We quickly discovered during our time in the Netherlands that the floral arrangements sure are something special. Even the bouquets in the carts around the neighborhood are simply divine. They’ve got all kinds of flowers, and create these larger than life arrangements that somehow look as though each one was carefully crafted with someone special in mind. I was so darn smitten with all the gorgeous blooms which appeared like magic around every corner – and canal!
If you get over to the Netherlands, check out all the flower markets. We sadly missed tulip season, but make sure you get yourself to one of their flower fields, too.
ps. If you can’t tell, Peonies are my favorite! What’s your favorite flower?
