Exploring the Pacific Northwest…for the very first time!
The secret’s out. The cat is no longer in the bag.
My little sister PROPOSED! She and her girlfriend, now fiancée, are engaged and I couldn’t be more excited.
And, totally honored that I got to be there for the special moment.
Well…’there’ as in me running down the beach photographing the proposal, barefoot, with all of my camera gear on my back. HA!
If only you could see a video of that. Wait. There is one, but I’m not sure if it should see the light of day.
Anyways back to the story.
My sister called me a few months ago and told me she was planning to surprise her girlfriend and propose(!) while on their trip to the Pacific Northwest. Her next question was if I’d be up for flying out there to photograph it.
Yes and YES.
So, earlier this month I hopped on a plane for a whirlwind 8 days. I spent a few nights exploring Seattle and visited a dear friend, then we hopped in her car and drove a few hours south to Cannon Beach, OR. THIS is the spot where my sister planned to get down on one knee in front of that gorgeous, mammoth Haystack Rock.
Despite the rain and the fear that her (now) fiancée would see us creeping up behind them to get the shot, it went off without a hitch!
It was perfect, and it was the perfect excuse for me to explore the Pacific Northwest for the first time.
Once we wrapped up our shoot at the beach, we hightailed it to Portland for celebratory dinner. Yes, the other Portland! If you’ve been around these parts before, you know how much I adore Portland, Maine. So, you can only imagine my excitement when I realized I’d get the chance to explore a (very different) city by the same name.
We checked into our (GORGEOUS) Stay Alfred apartment for the weekend and perhaps took a little too much time admiring the space and the views – I mean really, does it get better than this?
I had an absolute blast in all three spots out there in the PNW, and am so excited to share more from each city! We’ll start wth Seattle, then perhaps I’ll share a few snippets from Cannon Beach, then on to my favorite – Portland. Stay tuned, y’all!
Oh, and if you have any questions or want to know about any one of those spots in particular, do share!
