Let me ask you a question.
When you’re meeting up with a gal pal of yours, what’s the first activity you suggest?
I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be catching up over cocktails.
Which, let me be frank, is a lovely way to spend an evening. Don’t get me wrong. But, if you did say yes, you’re definitely not alone. It’s what I think of first, too! It’s easy, right? There are bars and delicious restaurants everywhere. E-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. And to sweeten the argument for always meeting up for a glass of wine or a classic cocktail, cafés often close around 4, making an afternoon coffee date nearly impossible.
I feel like I have to explain myself on this one, simply because a lot of you know me as a cocktail/entertaining blogger. Well, I’m not cheating too terribly because I suppose this is still considered entertaining.
Don’t be too tough on me, y’all.
So, while you know I enjoy a good cocktail, if all the cafés near you close up early(ish) and perhaps the weather isn’t ideal for a jaunt outdoors, I’d like to propose an idea:
An at-home gal pal coffee date.
I know, I know. It’s not very extravagant at all. But -wait.
I picked up three Coffee-mate® Dessert Creamers and oh boy are they fantastic. It certainly perked up my little gal pal coffee date. And, had me craving coffee almost immediately.
If I’ve piqued your interest in my argument for an at-home gal pal coffee date, here’s a little recipe for enjoying your friend’s company over a hot (or iced! My favorite) coffee.
First, pick up your common areas that morning. I’m not the most organized at home – sorry, Tim! So, I find that throughout the week I leave little things out here and there, and then by the end of the week it looks like a construction zone.
My bad.
So, I’d like to kindly suggest picking up either the night before or the morning of so that you’re not running around while your friend’s in the powder room trying to hide all the loose odds and ends.Speaking of which, does anyone else do this, too? It always leaves me feeling so frazzled.
Let’s say you always have the same coffee and afternoon or evening snack on hand. What about picking up something new to try?
You already know my new coffee ingredient – those downright tasty Coffee-mate Creamers. I stopped by our local Walmart, headed to the refrigerated aisle amongst the other dairy drinks and additions, and picked up all three. Because, why have to choose when you can try them all – and how could I pick just one when I have Coconut Caramel Latte, Toasted Marshmallow Mocha, and Cookies and Cream flavors to choose between? And(!) if you’re a lucky duck, you may end up there on a sampling day which means you get to try the seasonal creamers first.
I typically enjoy my coffee with some milk and simple syrup, but these Coffee-mate Creamers combined the creamy texture I love when I add a bit of whole milk to my lattes and coffee, and the sweetness of the simple syrup.
So, now that you’ve got your coffee on hand, have made your trip to Walmart, and picked up your home, it’s time for the final step. Better yet, you can find more recipes using Coffee-mate Dessert Creamers here.
Enjoy your company and slow it down! That’s one of my biggest goals for this year and I think hosting a friend or two for an after-work coffee date instead of rushing to get to a café before it closes up shop is a really lovely way to stop and smell the roses, if you will.
I know it’s such a simple thing to do, but how often are you inviting a friend of to just….catch up?
I think this was the perfect reminder for myself, too. Happy coffee-ing!
