Meal planning to make moving a little more bearable.
Moving is hard. It’s so hard.
You already have to spend days – if not weeks – packing up each and every precious belonging you own.
From your queen (or king – if you’re a lucky duck) bed down to those tiny teaspoons, you have to wrap it all up carefully, place everything in boxes, and hope that nothing breaks.
Something will. Something always breaks.
But, beyond that – you have to manage all the logistics of the actual move. And boy do I know moving logistics at this point. After moving 1k miles from Boston to Atlanta, we’ve got it down to a science. Except for when Uhaul decides to mess it all up and not deliver our stuff, but let’s not go there. I just can’t even think about it.
AND you have to do all of that while also managing to feed yourself.
Is it just me or is grocery shopping about 10 times harder when you’re in the process of moving?
Despite the craziness of moving, I’ve yet to subscribe to a meal kit service. You know what I’m talking about, those boxes that deliver ingredients and you cook up the meal. I really love finding and creating new recipes, and I generally don’t mind grocery shopping (unless I’m in the process of moving, obviously), so the meal kits never fully appealed to me.
HOWEVER, that all changed when I heard about Freshly. Rather than the typical ingredient meal kit service, they deliver the meals fully cooked. BOOM. What a dream. So, when we got to Atlanta, we didn’t have to worry about the first few days of cooking sans groceries while all our kitchen supplies were in boxes. Instead, we heated up our Freshly meals and dined like kings.
Sure, I’ll admit microwaving the meals slightly freaked me out a bit (I don’t know why, it just seemed strange to me that the meals were prepared then shipped fully cooked to us!). But, I’m so glad we gave it a go. The meals were DELICIOUS. They were all so good, though I do have to say that my favorite was the Caribbean Chicken. SO. YUMMY!
Now that I’ve scared everyone off from moving at any point in the near future, is there anyone who’s actually in the process of moving? How have you managed to maintain your sanity during such a hectic time?
ps. If you’re looking to streamline your meal planning process during moving and beyond, my friends over at Canva have meal planning/menu planning templates that you can work into rotation!
