Oh you know, just a few reasons why you must visit Portugal (immediately).
It’s no secret that I’ve been a little MIA around here.
And, I miss you all! So much so.
It’s been a year of travel, getting married, becoming an aunt for the first time, and oh yeah, more travel.
I almost feel like we’re in Atlanta as frequently as we’re not in Atlanta!
Just in the past 12 months we’ve been to Brasil, Ireland, Portugal, Massachusetts (a bunch of times), Arizona, Utah, Maine, and the list keeps going.
While Massachusetts will always be home, and Maine will always feel like home, Portugal was my favorite. And, here’s why.
Portugal has been on our list for years. Tim visited the Azores (Portuguese islands that are situated between the States and Portugal – he has family from there!) once or twice, but I’ve never been to Portugal.
The last time we were in Europe (my first trip!) we visited the Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, and Spain…and again, no Portugal.
So we said you know what? Let’s plan a belated honeymoon/first anniversary/birthday trip to Portugal. We tacked it on to our trip to Ireland for a wedding and soon after dancing the night away, we took off for Portugal.
Portugal is like Brasil, in that everyone is so very friendly. The meals are served late and can be so long (my favorite), and bottles of wine are CHEAP.
Cheap as in ridiculously affordable at restaurants, not cheap in flavor or quality.
Portuguese wine is divine and a full 10 summer days of vinho verde and albariƱo is what dreams are made of.
We managed to visit Lisbon, Porto, and Aveiro while gallivanting around Portugal. We loved each city in its own unique way, and oh boy, stay tuned for so much Portugal content!
I think overall, Porto was my favorite because the gastronomy was out of this world. However, I think Lisbon was the most beautiful city we visited. The colors alone are exquisite. And, when paired with the vibrant personality of its inhabitants? Well, it was mesmerizing.
So, in short, here’s why you MUST visit Portugal:
Does that convince you yet? If not, stay tuned. I love lots of fun Portugal photos coming your way soon!
