The holidays evoke so many wonderful memories for me.
Memories of cookie baking marathons, holiday movies on loop, and deliciously fragrant food and drinks.
I love everything about the holidays, but I particularly relish the cozy meals and cocktails we whip up from November to December. There’s just nothing like it. The spices smell like home somehow and the fresh citrus and pomegranates lining the produce shelves make my heart sing.
They also make my bar sing because pomegranate juice in holiday cocktails is the very best. And, I’ve got a really tasty one lined up for you today.
For this one, I’m using R.W. Knudsen Just Pomegranate Juice, however you can easily swap it out for the R.W. Knudsen Just Cranberry Juice, if pomegranate juice just isn’t your thing. I love using R.W. Knudsen juices in my cocktail recipes because they use only the highest quality (Certified Organic and Non-GMO) organic ingredients and processes. I know exactly what’s going into my recipes when I use R.W. Knudsen, and these delicious juices are no exception.
I know, I know – let’s get to the holiday recipe! We’re getting there, I promise.
This one uses a homemade spiced orange syrup that is divine for the holiday season. There’s nothing quite like that fresh winter citrus that pairs so nicely with holiday spices. I highly recommend making the syrup in advance because it’ll make cocktail prep that much quicker and easier, plus it needs a little time to cool as you’ll first be doing what’s called a dry shake with the rest of your ingredients.
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup water
Orange peel from 1 orange
Dash of cinnamon and nutmeg
1. Boil together 1/4 cup water and 1/4 cup granulated sugar for one minute or until sugar has dissolved.
2. Add a pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg and strips of orange peel from 1 orange.
3. Let cool and pour into a canning or mason jar. Store in your fridge, it should keep for about a week.
1.5 ounces orange syrup
1.5 ounces R.W. Knudsen Just Pomegranate Juice
2 ounces tequila
2 egg whites
Orange peel + pomegranate seeds, for garnish
1. Dry shake (vigorously!) all liquid ingredients and egg whites in a tumbler. This means shake it first without ice for about 60 seconds. Once combined, shake with ice for another 30 seconds.
2. Strain slowly into a coupe glass and garnish with orange peel and pomegranate seeds.
And there you have it – a fancy cocktail for your next holiday get-together!
What do you think, are you convinced to give an egg white cocktail a go?
