Smart snack tips for the 2017 gal on the go featuring Arnold Sandwich Thins, Weight Watchers International, and more. This post has been sponsored by Weight Watchers International. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
You know who you are, gals on the go. You’re constantly in overdrive. You’ve got your full-time gig, your passion project, your hobbies – you do it all, plain and simple. And while you’re doing it all, snacking healthy can sometimes drop down on the level of priorities, right? At least, that’s what happens to me.
So, with 2017 being my year of intention, smart snacking is making its way back to the top of my list. I’m stocking up on easy to grab snacks, finding new wholesome snack recipes that take just a few minutes and minimal effort to whip up, and cleaning out my unhealthy snack-filled cabinets. I’m also taking notes from Weight Watchers SmartPoints, which are a fantastic guide for getting back on track with my eating habits.
Smart Snack Tips
My new favorite smart snack tip is to get creative. Sounds cliché, but I mean it. Switch up how you’re already using healthy products for a new fun snack. Take, for example, Arnold Sandwich Thins (endorsed by Weight Watchers). It has sandwich right there in the name, so your first thought is to probably use them to make a sandwich, right? So, how about we switch it up?
I picked up Everything and Whole Wheat Sandwich Thins at Target and made two new fun snacks with them. They’re filling, without being overwhelming, and are so easy to use as a substitute. First up is my very favorite – avocado everything on a Sandwich Thin. Here’s how to make your own:
Ingredients
1 Sandwich Thins roll (Everything)
1 ripe avocado
Everything seasoning (a blend of poppy seeds, sesame seeds, dried minced garlic, salt, onion powder)
Instructions
1. Separate your Sandwich Thins roll and toast until golden brown and crispy.
2. Mash up or thinly slice your avocado (I like to have one half with mashed avocado, and one with thinly sliced avocado).
3. Top with everything seasoning mix.
Ingredients
1 Sandwich Thins roll (Whole Wheat)
1 banana, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons almond butter
2 teaspoons sesame seeds
Honey
Instructions
1. Separate your Sandwich Thins roll and toast until golden brown and crispy.
2. Spread almond butter on the Sandwich Thin.
3. Add banana slices.
4. Top with a drizzle of honey and sprinkling of sesame seeds.
Yes, eating and snacking healthy is important, but don’t be too hard on yourself. Don’t cut out whole food groups for the sake of ‘healthy snacking’ if you don’t have to. It’s all about how you feel, and about focusing on your whole self. I love that Weight Watchers takes this into account – it’s not just about your weight. What you can do instead is find healthier alternatives for snacks you already love (perhaps even using those SmartPoints as a guide). For me, that’s cheese. I love cheese. I could eat cheese with every meal, really. So rather than cutting cheese out entirely (because I know that would never work for me, less dietary restrictions), I found another option – Weight Watchers String Cheese!
I’ve never actually been a huge fan of string cheese, but I’ve found myself snacking on their mozzarella string cheese whenever I’m craving a big block of cheesy goodness. In fact, I was able to pick up all these tasty, healthy snacks in one fell swoop at Target (favorite store ever, right?).
Indulge…in moderation
Now, onto my favorite of the smart snack tips. Remember earlier when I told you to not be too hard on yourself? Well, it’s true.
If it’s ice cream you’re after, try a smarter version – like Weight Watchers Frozen Novelties. Truth be told, I’m partial to the English Toffee Crunch bars. So much yum! After trying my first one, I was hooked. It doesn’t feel as though you’re forgoing anything for this smarter ice cream option, but rather, you’re feeling much better about having it as a snack. At least I sure did.
Most importantly, it doesn’t have to be one extreme to the next. Instead, I hope you’ll use some of these smart snack tips for those days when you’re running around doing anything and everything. I know I’ll be sure to enjoy a few more avocado everything Sandwich Thins! And if you’re on the search for more healthy snack ideas, check out Weight Watchers Market on Facebook for inspiration.
