An easy Thanksgiving for Two with ButcherBox
Please note, this post is sponsored by ButcherBox.
All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I think by now, we all get it. This year is different.
That doesn’t mean that Thanksgiving has to be any less special of a holiday. In fact, I’ve spent nearly every Thanksgiving for the past five years away from home. 1000 miles away from home, to be exact.
Over the years, I learned how to make it special in its own way. And, while gatherings are at a minimum, I still want to celebrate. So, I teamed up with ButcherBox (who you may remember from this ridiculously delicious summer menu) to bring you my own spin on Thanksgiving and how you can make it a special one right in your own home.
This year, my husband and I are celebrating with Thanksgiving for two. A small feast right here in our little apartment in Atlanta. We’ll be dining on some delicious free-range turkey and sides (see below!), with enough to whip up some post-thanksgiving sandwiches and plates.
I know, I know. It’s the first thing on everyone’s mind whenever Thanksgiving is brought up. The food. This year, I’m cooking up a small, albeit tasty feast. The pièce de résistance of the meal being, of course, the turkey. I went with ButcherBox’s Turkey option because:
I feel better putting food on our table when I know it’s high quality at an unbeatable value. Not to mention the convenience of ordering through ButcherBox. The amount of time I save looking for specific cuts of meat means I have time to do other things – like enjoy time with my little family. If you haven’t cooked up a turkey before, I suggest using Ina Garten’s recipe. That’s the one I’ll be using, too! I just swap out the thyme for rosemary.
And for those of you who are new to ButcherBox, if you sign up today, you’ll receive a 10-14 lb, free-range, all-natural (no basting or artificial ingredients, minimally processed) turkey for FREE in your first order.

Thanksgiving dinner (or lunch for some of you!) is one of the meals where I thoroughly look forward to both the main entrée and the side dishes. I mean, a plate full of turkey covered in homemade spiced cranberry sauce AND mac and cheese on the side? I’m there. It’s easy to get caught up in needing to have the standard Thanksgiving sides because of tradition or some other constraint you’re attempting to stick to.
This year, I want to challenge you to use what you have.
I’ll say this again – use what you have!
For my Thanksgiving dinner, I’m whipping up what I have on hand – like carrots, petite potatoes, and mac and cheese. And, then giving it a little spin. Here’s what’s on my list for this year:
Take stock of what you have on hand and build a menu around that. Don’t feel like you need to serve what you always do, just because. Give yourself some space to enjoy the holiday with as little stress as possible. Better yet, test out some new-to-you recipes and have a little fun!
Go simple. I find myself wrapped up in needing the perfect candle holders, the exact serving equipment and dishes, the classic creme tablecloth – and this year, I just let it go. I’ll be setting the table with what I already have – vintage gold coasters, my go-to wine glasses, small cloth napkins, and whatever candles I haven’t already burned through.
I encourage you to do the same. Enjoy the time with your family, don’t let the little things take up mental space. Make things easier on yourself, you deserve a break. We all do.
Overall, I want you to remember this: Make Thanksgiving special in your own way. Create new traditions. Try something new. Enjoy it.
Now I want to know about what your Thanksgiving is looking like this year! What are your plans? And, what food are you most looking forward to serving?
And don’t forget – snag your free turkey before the deal’s up on November 15!
