Boston Local: Urban Grape

Free beer, cool people, sweet digs, and puppies? Could anything be better than an evening with Urban Grape? I think not.

When I heard about Eventbrite’s Hometown Hunt project, I knew I wanted to share one of my favorite local Boston spots, but I couldn’t pick! Boston has so much to offer and it was hard to narrow it down.

If you’re unfamiliar with Eventbrite, it’s a platform that you can use for finding events happening near you and to organize and sell tickets for your very own event! Nifty, eh?

Then, a light went off, and I remembered how much I love stopping by Urban Grape for wine and beer tastings. I work one block from Urban Grape, so you can imagine I’m there quite frequently.

Free wine and beer. Yes, please.

The adorable shop hosts weekly (free!) tastings ranging from local ales to red wines, and everything in between. Best part? The tastings are local- and tourist-friendly. Meaning, there’s no need to sign up in advance, print tickets, etc. Just show up and you’re golden.

In fact, last night my friend, A., and I stopped by the Urban Hops Grand Beer Tasting and had a blast! There were six breweries there, so we made our way around the table, meeting new people, and enjoying local brews. Basically, the ideal Thursday evening.

It’s also centrally located – right near Back Bay Station and just a few blocks from the green line. Planning a trip to Boston, soon? Add it to your to-do list! You can even pick up a bottle to bring back to your hotel room, or Airbnb, or hostel – basically wherever you’re staying.

Aside from the shop’s awesome wine and beer tastings, it’s also home to an impressive collection of wine, beer, and liquor. The sommeliers there have fantastic suggestions, even when I stop by and say “I’m looking for any kind of wine that’s sweet, but not too sweet, and crisp. Oh, and the best sour beer you’ve got.” I’ve never been disappointed; they’re rockstars.
