My biggest news as of late: We bought a house!
For months….no….years, I’d wake up around 5:30 am and hop right out of bed. With a brisk walk over to the dresser and a quick grab, I’d have my phone in hand so that I could unlock it and open up Redfin and Zillow. Every morning.
I was up and at ’em because who knew, maybe that was the day I was going to buy my dream home! Or at least put an offer in for it.
And, I’ll be honest, I knew that each of those days wasn’t “the day.” Rather, I was stumbling along, not entirely nor in the slightest bit prepared to purchase a home. Buying a home is a huge thing! It’s not something to rush into it.
And, by the time we landed this little cutie, I think I had done my due diligence. Literally and figuratively. Which, I promise I’ll get to in a later post. Is that something that would be helpful? Sharing what we did to prepare?
I know that some of it is pure luck, but I also like to think that all of our research and discussions leading up to buying a home helped us find and land the sweetest shotgun home (aka my dream home). And, now that we’ve been in it for a few months, it’s finally starting to come together.
We have a looooong list of projects and products we’d like to handle and purchase, respectively. Yet, for now, I’m doing my very best to simply enjoy being in our home. Our first owned home! She’s quirky and uneven and all-around a delight to live in.
I’m also trying my hand at learning to love DIY projects. I tried to push myself to DIY things for years, and what I found is that I don’t *love* it. However, I’m learning to embrace and enjoy doing things here on our own at the house. It feels so much more satisfying when I’m able to do it myself! And, lucky for me, I’ve got an incredibly handy husband who is nearly always working on one thing or another at the house. To say I’m thankful is a major understatement.
So, with that, let’s get to a few more photos! This house is everything I’ve dreamed of – funky and unique and completely and utterly charming. It’s a 1960s shotgun, exposed double-sided fireplace and all. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would find a house as perfect for us as this one.
And yes, perfect does come with sweat equity and patience – we’ve got lots of home projects on our radar. Here’s what we’re hoping to accomplish at some point:
More to come soon about this “we bought a house” series…including a total overhaul to my website! It’s long overdue and I cannot wait to show you what my designer and I have been dreaming up 😊
